My Long Weekend

with one comment

Sunday was our 6th wedding anniversary. 6th! I’ve been married for almost 1/4 of my life!

So Jon was able to take both Friday and Monday off, and we had a really nice 4-day weekend together. I hadn’t planned to take all four days off from my work, but it’s so hard to do work when Jon’s here. I just want to spend time with him. Six year later, it’s still my favorite thiIMG_0952ng to do. I think that’s a good sign that we’ll make it to 60.

Friday we drove over to Dayton to see Jeff Dunham. It was a lot of fun. He is an amazing ventriloquist, and so funny! He has a character named Bubba J, a redneck who loves to drink beer and watch NASCAR. Apparently, Dunham has not been doing his bit with Bubba J for awhile and had forgotten a lot of the jokes. But Dayton-ites requested Bubba J, so Dunham decided to add him to the show, and he just read his notes for the jokes. Unlike Dunham, the audience didn’t need a cheat sheet. They knew the Bubba J routine word for word! It was incredible! There were thousands of people chanting these jokes, helping out Dunham. We felt just a little out of place.

We hung out at home for most of the rest of our long weekend. We slept in, made banana muffins, played some games, and watched some movies. We did venture out a few times – to see Angels & Demons and to switch our cell phone service to Verizon and get new phones. We also went down to the circle for the Chase 500 Festival Kids’ Day. It was quite a production. And it was perfect weather for it. So lots of families with little kids were out. They seemed to be having a good time.

While we were out, we stopped in at Dick’s Bodacious BBQ. I’m a sucker for barbeque, and this place was really good. A lot of places smother the meat in so much sauce that you can’t taste it.  Dick’s just cooks the meat and lets you add the sauce. Much better. It’s also pretty inexpensive for being in the downtown area.

Anyway, I’m back at it now. The break was nice, but it’s time to get serious.
